Bleu Cheese Burgers

Jorge’s birthday was July 30th, and for his birthday my parents got him a grill! Jorge will not venture into the kitchen much unless it is absolutely necessary…but when it comes to grilling, as with most men, he is anxious to go. I guess it’s the fact that they get to play with fire and it’s always been referred to as a manly thing to do…and gets their testosterone flowing. Either way, I appreciate that I do not have to go outside and sweat by the hot fire pit! My estrogen and I will stay happy and cool inside! We were unable to use the grill until we moved to the new place…so it sat taunting us in our old shoe box apartment. Now, the day has come, exactly 1 month later, for Jorge to fire up his new beloved grill! We tossed ideas back and forth about what should be our first meal on the grill…and after seeing Bleu Cheese Burgers, on Jenn Cuisine, I knew it was exactly what we needed! Following Jenn’s lead we had some sauteed yellow squash and zucchini as a side…which was a great change, and so much healthier then fries!

This recipe was adapted from Jenn Cuisine.

You will need:
1 pound ground beef
2 ounces crumbled blue cheese
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon steak seasoning
salt and pepper

1. Mix Worcestershire, steak seasoning and salt/pepper into the ground meat. Shape meat into 8 very thin patties.
2. Spoon about 2 tbs. bleu cheese onto the center of 4 patties (leave some space near the edges), and place another patty on top to make a “sandwich”
3. Very carefully pinch the edges closed, well enough that the burger will stay together when grilling.
4. Grill till burgers are fully cooked. We cooked ours for 4 minutes on each side and they were perfect. A tip I learned a while back is to only flip your meat once, and also do not flatten the burger with your spatula. This way it cooks evenly, and retains all of the juices.
5. Serve however you like your burgers! I personally, love to have caramelized onions (with a little Worcestershire sauce thrown in while they are still cooking) and A1 on top of mine.
