This Easy Mug Cake Is So Fluffy And Moist
Seriously, it’s AMAZING.
The coffee gives it such a rich flavor and you can really taste the caramel. It’s the perfect balance of fluffy and moist….plus it only takes 5 minutes to make.
What Toppings Go Best With This Microwave Mug Cake?
I top mine with whipped cream and extra caramel sauce just like the latte version of a Caramel Macchiato. I can’t stress enough how delicious this mug cake is!
Even if you aren’t the biggest Caramel Macchiato Latte fan, this cake version will 100% change your mind. If you enjoy the flavor of coffee in sweet desserts — you know, like coffee ice cream — then you must try this mug cake as soon as humanely possible.
I made this mug cake as an experiment and was instantly in love. I immediately texted my girlfriend who lives a few doors down to hurry over and I would make her one too.
She was walking in the door as it went into the microwave and two minutes later she was inhaling it. It is so dang good! I have made it three times since last week and I swear this is the perfect recipe.
This Mug Cake Recipe Does Not Use Eggs
Just like all my other mug cakes, this recipe uses no egg. I find when you add an egg to a mug cake it has a weird spongey texture that I do not like.
This mug cake is completely from scratch and you probably have everything you need to make it. The only ingredient you might not have lying around is the instant coffee.
Instant coffee granules are found in the coffee section of the grocery store and are really cheap. I bought a big bottle at walmart for $2.
Can I Use Store Bought Whipped Cream And Caramel?
I used store bought caramel sauce to keep it easy, but you can make your own caramel sauce if you prefer. I also used store bought whipped cream.
When I am making a mug cake, I am looking for a delicious single serving dessert in under 5 minutes. I am not looking to make a big fancy dessert for myself.
Heck, I am actually usually making it for Jorge and I to share after the kiddos have gone to bed while we watch our favorite shows. What can I say, we keep it simple.
If You Love Coffee You’ll Definitely Love This Mug Cake

Don’t forget the whipped cream and caramel sauce on top!

great
I love caramel macchiato and honestly, half of this works to satisfy my sweet tooth. Definitely try it.
Tried this, and good mug cake. It’s moist and actually not painfully sweet. I suggest letting the instant coffee granules fully dissolve in some warm milk. Otherwise mine didn’t really fully melt and incorporate and the cake had strong bitter areas.
Delicious and easy to make.
Wow amazing after being home with my 6 year old we decided to try a mug cake recipe everyday…….It’s been a week so seven recipes and not one keeper( to be fair we don’t have butter). the coffee just adds so much dimension. Thank you for sharing❤️❤️
Glad you both enjoyed it!!
I came across this recipe recently and bookmarked it. Tonight I was craving a little something sweet and made this. WOW!!!!!! This is so delicious! I used espresso powder instead of instant coffee because it’s what I had. I think it’s just perfect! I honestly wish I could make a full-size cake that tastes just like this. My son wants a caramel macchiato cake for his birthday and this would be perfect.
That looks amazing. This might be the recipe that gets me to try a mug cake. Can you give me a more definitive idea of what you mean by large mug? Any idea how many ounces the pictured mug holds?
The night before grocery day and I get a serious sweets craving! This recipe sounded just like what I needed! Didn’t have any milk in the house but I DID have a big bottle of vanilla caramel creamer so I used that instead. Holy crap it was delicious! Fluffy, nice coffee flavor and just enough to satisfy the sweet tooth!
So glad you enjoyed it Jane! Thanks for taking the time to come back and comment!
We don’t own a microwave oven… Is it possible to make or bake this instead? What should be the temperature and for how long? Thank you.
Just tried the caramel macchiato mug cake and all I have to say is “nomnomnom”. That was sooooo good. I don’t usually have the caramel sauce but I had an extra jar from christmas. The same with the whipped topping. I will keep those in my kitchen from now on. Or maybe I shouldn’t, that would be to much of a daily temptation.
This looks yummy what can u use to substitute for the coffee?
When I use to work at the coffee shop I use to love a good Caramel Macchiato! Now this and cake…oh YES!!!
One of the best coffee drinks made into a cake! Yes please!
Mug cakes aren’t usually pretty. This one is. Job well done!
I don’t like coffee but I love baking with it. I bet I’d love this!
This mug cake looks absolutely DELICIOUS!!! YUM!!
If you didn’t have instant coffee, but rather freshly brewed coffee (I brew mine pretty strong) could you swap it out for the milk? Or how would you change the recipe using brewed coffee versus instant coffee as you have listed in the recipe.
Now that is one gorgeous mug cake!!
Wow, I often come across mug cakes but don’t usually feel the drive to try one. However, this mug cake just jumped up and smacked me in the face. Delicious recipe!
