Cemitas

What are Cemitas?

Cemitas are a traditional Mexican bread that can be either sweet or savory. They are light and fluffy, and waiting to be dunked into coffee or spread with jam for breakfast!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

You'll need eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and a few other simple ingredients to make this easy recipe.

Step 1. Combine the yeast, sugar, milk, shortening, sugar, brown sugar, eggs, anise seeds, vanilla extract, flour, and salt.

Step 2. Knead the dough for 12-16 minutes. Then roll it into a ball and let it rest in a greased bowl, covered, until doubled in size.

Step 3. Remove the dough from the bowl, punch the air out and divide into 10-12 pieces. Then roll into balls.

Step 4. Line two baking trays and place 5-6 balls of dough on each tray, pressing and flattening them with hands.

Step 5. Cover trays and allow to rise 15-20 minutes. Then dust with flour and bake one tray at a time for 10-15 minutes.

Let them cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Then dig in!
