what are TOSTONES?

Crispy, salty Puerto Rican Tostones are the perfect pre-dinner snack or easy side dish!  Serve these savory fried plantains with mayo ketchup sauce and watch them disappear.


Vegetable Oil Green Plantains Garlic Lime Juice Salt Ketchup Mayo Garlic

Step 1. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together water, garlic, kosher salt and lime juice. Set aside.

Step 2. Heat the vegetable oil and fry the peeled and sliced plantains in batches. Cook 3-4 minutes per side.

Step 3. Remove the plantains and cool on a rack or paper towel. Smash the plantains to flatten.

Step 4. Dip the smashed plantains in the water mixture, then place them back in the oil.

Step 5. Cook for 2 minutes per side, then transfer back to a paper towel-lined plate Sprinkle with salt.

Step 6. Whisk together the ingredients for the Mayo Ketchup Sauce and serve with the tostones.
