HOMEMADE APPLE PIE FILLING

WHAT KIND OF APPLES ARE BEST?

Different kinds of apples will produce more or less liquid as they cook.  My favorite apples to use for pie filling are ​​Granny Smith, Golden Delicious or Honeycrisp. These have a delicious sweet-tart flavor and won’t get mushy when baked! 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Apples Lemon Sugar Cornstarch Spices

Step 1. Peel, core, and slice the apples.  Toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.

Step 2. Mix together the sugar and cornstarch, then add the spices.

Step 3. Add the dry ingredients to a pot of boiling water. Simmer until thickened.

Step 4. Add the apples to the sauce, and simmer until tender. Remove from heat to cool.

Step 5. Once cooled, you can pour the pie filling right into a crust or store for later use!

Apple Pie Filling can be used for so many recipes!  Try it in cobblers and crisps, over ice cream, and even atop breakfast items like pancakes or oatmeal!
