Soft, from-scratch Hot dog buns

These homemade hot dog buns are easy to make and super customizable. Soft and fluffy, they come together in a snap and don't have any artificial ingredients.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Milk and Water Yeast Sugar Eggs  Flour Salt Butter Egg White Cream

Step 1. In the bowl of the stand mixer, lightly whisk warm water, warm milk, yeast and sugar.

Step 2. Add the remaining ingredients except butter. Knead the dough on low speed for a couple minutes.

Step 3. Add the butter and finish kneading, until a soft dough forms.

Step 4. Place the dough in a separate bowl to rise. Spray the top of the dough with baking spray.

Step 5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to deflate it.

Step 6. Turn the dough out on a clean, floured surface, and use your hands to press it into a rectangle.

Step 7. Cut the rectangle in half down the middle, and then cut it in half the short way. Then cut into 12 pieces.

Step 8. Roll each strip of dough into a tight ball. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.

Step 9. Roll each dough ball into a log shape about 7 inches long. Arrange on a baking sheet.

Step 10. Let the hot dog buns rise, and in the meantime, make the egg wash in a small bowl.

Step 11. Brush the buns with the egg wash and bake them until lightly golden.

Step 12. Remove them from the oven and immediately brush them with melted butter.

Allow the buns to fully cool before slicing. The cooling time allows them to finish baking on the inside. Then serve!
