What are johnny cakes?

This easy recipe consists of flat, crispy-edged cornbread pancakes that are flavorful and not too sweet.  They can be served with maple syrup or something savory, like greens or beans!


You'll need flour, cornmeal, sugar, and a few other simple ingredients to make this easy recipe.

Step 1. In one mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

Step 2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, water, eggs, and melted butter until smooth.

Step 3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and stir until just combined..

Step 4. Spoon batter onto a hot pan and cook for four minutes, then flip and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Top with maple syrup or serve with a savory side dish and enjoy!
