Sweet Potato Pie Dip tastes like the filling of a classic sweet potato pie, cool and creamy and loaded with cinnamon! It is so light and fluffy, perfect for scooping up with a gingersnap or graham cracker. Bonus: It’s ready in just 5 minutes.

Five ingredients and a bowl are all you need!
I make a batch of this sweet potato dip every fall, usually more than once and it never lasts long. It is one of those recipes where everything goes in one bowl, you stir, and you’re done.
Take your time mashing the sweet potatoes until they are completely smooth (I often puree them with my hand held immersion blender). Any lumps or strings that go into the bowl are going to be there at the end, which makes all the difference between a smooth dip and a chunky one.
The end result tastes just like sweet potato pie, but fluffier! Eat it with gingersnaps (or whatever your heart desires) and watch it disappear even quicker than it took to whip it up.

Key Ingredients and Substitutions
- Sweet Potatoes – You’ll need 2 mashed cups, which is about 2 large sweet potatoes. Canned sweet potato puree works great if you can find it. Canned sweet potatoes in syrup will also work, but drain them well and lightly rinse the sweet syrup off them first.
- Instant Vanilla Pudding – You only need the dry powder, which helps the dip to set up and thicken. Do NOT make the pudding according to package directions!
- Cool Whip – Cool Whip or CocoWhip are my go-to choices if I’m making it ahead or enjoying it over a couple of days time. Homemade whipped cream works great too, just plan on serving it the same day.
- Marshmallow Fluff – This sweetens the dip and also does wonders for the texture, so do NOT skip it.
How To Make Sweet Potato Pie Dip
Visit the recipe card below for the ingredient amounts and full directions.

Mix the base. Add the mashed sweet potatoes, pudding mix, cinnamon, and marshmallow fluff to a bowl.
Blend until smooth. Use a hand mixer or a whisk and go until there are no streaks of fluff left. It’ll look thick and a little sticky.
Fold in the Cool Whip. Add it all at once and fold gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until the color is even. Don’t beat it or you’ll lose the fluffy texture.
Serve or chill. Serve it immediately with all your favorite dippers or store it in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to serve.
What to serve with sweet potato pie dip?
Graham crackers, gingersnaps, and sliced apples are a few of my family’s favorites. Vanilla wafers, shortbread cookies, and pretzel thins all work great too!

Jessica’s Tips
- Measure after you mash. Two cups of cubed sweet potato and two cups of mashed sweet potato aren’t the same thing. Mash first, then measure!
- Remove all the strings. Sweet potatoes have fibers that a whisk won’t break down. Run the sweet potatoes through a food processor or give it 20 seconds with an immersion blender before anything else goes in the bowl.
- Fold, don’t beat. Once the Cool Whip goes in, switch from the mixer to a rubber spatula. Beating knocks all the air out and your dip will never get properly fluffy.
Storing and Making Ahead
You can store this dessert dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. It’s a perfect make-ahead dip for fall parties and Thanksgiving! If you happen to see a little liquid on top of the dip, just give it a quick stir before serving.
