  • Lime Juice – Lemon juice is a good swap.

What’s The Best Tequila for a Margarita?

You can use any type of tequila you like, but I find that white/silver tequila goes best with the light flavors of coconut. Aged tequila like “reposado” or “añejo” are much smokier and have stronger hints of caramel, which is great but it will change the flavor of the margarita slightly.

Are Coconut Cream and Cream of Coconut The Same?

No, but you can get both from the same can of coconut milk. Avoid shaking the can of coconut milk right before opening it. Then scoop out the thick coconut cream that is sitting on top, which is also considered the coconut milk’s fat. The rest of the can is coconut milk.

How To Make A Coconut Margarita

This easy coconut margarita recipe is ready in just 5 minutes with a few simple steps.

  • Coconut Rim: Rub the rim of your glass with a lime wedge and then press the glass into shredded coconut.
  • Shaker: Add ice, coconut milk, coconut cream, lime juice, tequila, triple sec, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker. Shake well, until you feel the shaker become well chilled.
  • Pour: Fill your glass ⅔ full with ice and strain the margarita into the glass. Serve!

Tips for the Best Margarita

Coconut margarita or not, you’ll be whipping up the best cocktails with the help of these easy tips:

  • Sweeten it. Simple syrup, agave syrup, raw honey, and even sweetened coconut milk are all great options for adding a bit of sweetness to your margaritas.
  • Add a topping. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of toasted coconut flakes on top of your margarita for a nice crunch.
  • Make it frosty. Add 1/4-1/2 cup of ice to the blender. Add in all of the margarita ingredients and blend until nice and icy. Serve and enjoy for a frosty treat.
  • Avoid store-bought juice. One of the secrets to a great margarita is always using freshly squeezed lime juice. The bottled stuff you can get at the store is convenient, but you’ll never get the same flavor from it.

Can I Make a Big Batch of Coconut Lime Margaritas?

Absolutely! Double, triple, or quadruple the recipe (except for the ice) and combine everything in a large pitcher. Stir it well to combine and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. When ready to serve, add the coconut rim to your glasses, stir again, and serve over ice.
