Fresh fruit is even more delicious with this sweet, fluffy Marshmallow Fruit Dip. Make it ahead of time to serve on a fruit platter, or add some to a lunchbox and make healthy fruit a little more fun!

Irresistibly Creamy, Fluffy Fruit Dip!

Marshmallow fruit dip is one of those fun 80s and 90s trends that deserves a comeback. Sure, you may think of faded Tupperware when you think of it – but it’s time to change that! This ultra-creamy, lightly tangy dip turns a simple plate of apple slices (or any cut-up fruit) into a luscious treat. We’re talking fresh, sweet, silky perfection.

And like so many recipes from those days, marshmallow fruit dip is extremely easy to make.  All you really need are cream cheese and marshmallow fluff, but I add a couple of other simple touches for a more balanced, yet indulgent version.

(If you love fruit dip, you absolutely have to try this Warm Caramel Apple Dip, plus my Monster Cookie Dough Dip and sweet Pumpkin Dip!)

From top: Vanilla, cream cheese, marshmallow fluff, salt.

Ingredients

While different recipes call for various mix-ins (and we’ll get into those in the “Helpful Tips and Variations” section below), this basic recipe is perfectly balanced, with just four ingredients.

  • Cream Cheese: Soften the cream cheese to room temperature, so that it blends smoothly and easily.
  • Vanilla: Use pure vanilla extract or scraped vanilla bean for the best flavor.
  • Salt: A pinch of salt balances the sweetness and richness of the other ingredients.
  • Marshmallow Fluff: Where do you find marshmallow fluff? It is often sold near pudding mixes, ice cream toppings, baking ingredients, or marshmallows (shocking, I know!).

Is Marshmallow Fluff the Same as Marshmallow Creme?

Yes, these two ingredients are essentially the same thing. Marshmallow Fluff is actually a brand name, and some people insist on the Marshmallow Fluff brand for a really fluffy texture, but you can definitely swap one for the other as needed!

How to Make This Classic Marshmallow Fruit Dip

This is such a simple recipe to pull together – you just whip most of the ingredients with a mixer, and then fold in the marshmallow fluff. Remember, folding is different than stirring –  you really are just folding the ingredients around each other until they are blended but still fluffy.

  • Whip: Whip the cream cheese, vanilla, and salt together in a large bowl until they are smooth and fully combined.
  • Fold: Use a rubber spatula to fold in the marshmallow fluff.
  • Chill. Cover the dip and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes. Then serve with your choice of fruits!

What Fruits Go Well with Fruit Dip?

You can choose all kinds of fun fruit dippers for this dip, and you can also use things like cookies or graham crackers. A few favorites include:

  • Apples, pears, kiwi
  • Grapes
  • Berries (any kind!)
  • Melon (any kind!)
  • Mango, papaya, dragonfruit
  • Graham crackers, ‘Nilla wafers, and other cookies

Helpful Tips and Easy Variations

You can also use this recipe as a starting-off-point for other yummy fruit dip variations. Try these simple tweaks to make this one your own.

  • Dairy-Free Option: You can substitute your favorite vegan cream cheese in this recipe if you would like to avoid regular cream cheese. Cultured cream cheese (lactose-free) will also work.
  • Strawberry: Growing up, this dip was always pink! Our moms would either use strawberry-flavored marshmallow fluff, or dye it with a little red food coloring. You could also add a little strawberry Jello powder while beating the dip together.
  • Colorful Fruit Dip: You can also use other food colorings, like blue or green, for a festive colored dip that matches your event theme. Green fruit dip for St. Patrick’s Day, anyone?
  • Cannoli: Make a quicker version of my Chocolate Orange Cannoli Dip by adding orange zest and mini chocolate chips to this basic recipe.
  • Boozy Fruit Dip: Add your favorite liqueur for a grown-up treat. Kahlua, Bailey’s, limoncello, amaretto… the possibilities are endless!

Yummy Serving Suggestions

Fruit dip and fresh fruit make a fantastic snack on their own, but they also work well as part of a finger food menu for a baby shower, pool party, etc. I like to add these recipes to any finger food spread – they’re sure to be a hit!

  • Cucumber Sandwiches: Made with crisp grated cucumber instead of slices, my family’s recipe for traditional Cucumber Sandwiches is a must for any get-together.
  • Pretzels: Whip up a batch of easy Honey Mustard Pretzels and watch them disappear! Plain, store-bought pretzels are transformed in this perfect snack recipe.
  • Crescent Ring: This appetizing Pulled Pork Crescent Ring looks amazing, tastes fantastic, and is ultra-simple to make.

How to Store Marshmallow Fruit Dip

This is so easy to store – just place any leftover dip in a tight-lidded container, jar, or a zip-top bag. Refrigerate for up to a week.

Can I Freeze This?

Yes, you can! Homemade marshmallow fruit dip can be frozen in an airtight freezer container or freezer bag for up to one month. Thaw in the fridge before serving.
